Your first Project Zomboid server

Joining, your admin account, server settings and Workshop mods.

1. Before you start: leave Server Name alone

The Server Name in the Startup tab is the name of your save and settings files, not the name players see. Changing it later starts a new world with default settings. To change the name shown in the server list, edit PublicName in the settings file instead (see below).

2. How do my friends and I join?

1. In Project Zomboid, choose Join, then add a new server. 2. Type the part of your address before the colon in IP and the number after it in Port. Fill in the server password if you set one. 3. The first time, choose an account username and password. That account is yours on this server, so remember them. 4. Save and join.

3. How do I become admin?

Log in with the Admin Username and Admin Password from the Startup tab; that account is the server admin. To make your own account an admin instead, join once, then type this in the panel Console:

setaccesslevel "YourUsername" admin

4. Where are the server settings?

Stop the server, then in the Files tab open .cache/Server and the .ini file named after your Server Name. That is where the password (Password), public listing (Public, PublicName), PvP and mods are set. Game rules such as zombie count are in the _SandboxVars.lua file next to it. Save, then start the server.

5. How do I add Workshop mods?

In the same .ini file, add each mod twice: its Workshop ID (the number in the Steam Workshop link) to the WorkshopItems= line and its Mod ID (on the Workshop page) to the Mods= line. Separate several with semicolons. Start the server; it downloads the mods, and players get them when they join.
