Your first Terraria server

Your world settings, joining by IP, console commands and tModLoader mods.

1. How do I set up my world?

In the Startup tab: World Name, World Size, Difficulty, Max Players, Password and the message of the day. Restart to apply. Size, difficulty and seed only apply when a new world is created, so pick them before the first start, or change World Name to create a new world.

2. How do my friends and I join?

1. In Terraria, choose Multiplayer, then Join via IP. 2. Pick a character. 3. Type the part of your address before the colon as the IP, then the number after it as the port. 4. Enter the password if you set one.

3. How do I kick or ban players?

Terraria servers have no in-game admin, so moderation happens in the panel Console. Useful commands: playing (who is online), kick PlayerName, ban PlayerName, say followed by a message, and save.

4. How do I add mods? (tModLoader servers)

1. Stop the server and make a backup. 2. Upload each mod .tmod file to the mods folder. 3. Open mods/enabled.json and add each mod name in quotes, for example ["CalamityMod", "MagicStorage"]. A mod that is not listed there does not load. 4. Start the server. Players who join without the mods are offered a download, as long as their tModLoader version matches the server.
